Biodynamic and organic farming, more equivalence

Bedroom stopped one bill that would have equaled organic to biodynamic farminga practice that includes activities without scientific value and indicated as esoteric discipline by the Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources of the National Research Council (Cnr). The text of the organic agriculture bill was approved in the Senate last spring, despite protests and appeals from the scientific community. However, the assembly of Montecitorio approved the amendments of the deputy Riccardo Magi of + Europa, which eliminate the references to biodynamic agriculture and postpone the discussion to the Senate.

The law project

The draft law on the protection, development and competitiveness of agricultural, agri-food and aquaculture production aims to reorganize clearly the extensive set of rules and regulations that prescribe how it should be practiced biological agriculture, applying the directives of the European Union. In this way, producers who comply with the rules established by law will have easier access to European fundsavoiding bureaucratic complications and consumers avoiding products that are not organic.

However, when first drafted, the legislators who proposed decided to include agriculture in the text as well. biodynamicfounded by German mystical philosopher Rudolf Stainer and trademark of German multinational Demeter, and the Senate saw fit to approve it as is. The bill’s first signatory, Live Italy MP Maria Chiara Gadda, defended the choice, arguing that “I don’t care what Steiner wrote and his philosophy. You get funding because you’re a professional farmer and because you have organic certification, and that also applies to those who, for reasons that don’t interest me, choose to do biodynamic farming” reports daily fact.

Biodynamics

Biodynamic agriculture, however, while prescribing a type of agriculture without herbicides, genetically modified organisms and limited use of mechanical farm vehicles, also includes the use of particular fertilizers that are more like mystical rituals rather than actual farming practices. is exactly these esoteric practicesthat a company must respect to be categorized as biodynamic, they were about to be included in the Italian legal system.

These are nine preparations with indefinite magical properties, which distinguish biodynamics from organic farming. Among the best known are the so-called cornoletam – or Preparato 500 – consisting of a cow horn that has given birth at least once, filled with excrement and buried in winter, then dug up at Easter and dissolved in dynamized water, i.e. mixed in a large quantity of water, rotating first in one direction and then changing direction for an hour. At the end of the practice, the preparation can be used to fertilize the fields. Another preparation is fill a male deer’s bladder with yarrow flowersbury it for a few months and eventually use it as fertilizer, while yet another prescribes inserting several pieces of bark into the skull of a pet.
